Top Ranked Arizona improved to (18–0, 5-0 Pac – 12) after beating its in state rival Arizona State University 91 – 68 in Tucson.  The Sun Devils are now (13–5, 2–3 Pac -12) after being dominated by the Wildcats.

Arizona took an early lead and never looked back.  The Wildcat’s athleticism was too much for ASU to handle.  The Sun Devils were playing without their second leading scorer Jermaine Marshall

With every win without a loss Arizona is establishing a new school record to begin a season.

“We have a group of guys that play with a lot of energy, a lot of effort and are willing to share the ball,” mentioned Arizona’s Head Coach Sean Miller as his Wildcats had seven players score in double figures.

Arizona’s leading scorer was Nick Johnson who finished the game with 17 points while Freshmen Aaron Gordon finished with 16.  Kaleb Tarczewski was a force under he basket as he grabbed eight rebounds in 25 minutes of play.  Tarczewiski finished with 12 points.

For the Sun Devils Jahii Carson finished with 20 points and 5 assists, but was not nearly enough against the Wildcats. 7 feet 2 inches Jordan Bachynski was not a factor in the game as he went to the bench early in the game with foul trouble.  Bachinski finished the game with three points, all coming from the free throw line as he missed all three of his field goal attempts.

“We’re just trying to take this one game at a time. This is our dream,” mentioned Nick Johnson after the win. “We’re living our dream right now being the No. 1 team in the country and we have our target on our backs, but we like that,” added the junior guard as he scored his 1000th point as a Wildcat during the game against ASU.

Arizona will host Colorado next Thursday (January 23rd) at McKale Center.
