Bill Barquin, a nine-year veteran for Radio Campesina, began working for the station as an account executive and sales manager for the network’s highly successful KNAI Phoenix Station.
It was in 2009 he became the radio network’s chief operating officer (COO).
As the network COO, Barquin oversees management and staff coordination of programming, engineering, satellite, IT, administration activities and all local stations under the Radio Campesina Network.
Barquin feels the most gratifying aspect of his position is having the opportunity to truly make a difference in people’s lives.
“I have the unique honor to be part of something greater than one person, my work has a contribution in helping people and communities,” he said. “La Campesina is more than a radio station. What we do on a daily basis directly impacts our community and listeners by producing quality radio programming “
Born in Morenci, Ariz., Barquin has also received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University.
Furthermore, Barquin’s commitment to the community includes service in a host of city, business, charitable and school activities, ranging from being on the board of managers of the Valley of the Sun YMCA to the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
He has also been recognized as a recipient of the “40 Under 40 Hispanic Leaders in Arizona” award.
This year, Barquin has the pleasure of being honored during Hispanic Heritage Month by Cox Communications.
“I am blessed and fortunate to work with an amazing team, and to have an opportunity to be mentored by our VP Michael Nowakowski, and President Paul Chavez, as this recognition is a reflection of them and our team,” he said. “I applaud Cox Communications’ continued recognition and commitment to the Hispanic Community.”
In the future, Barquin hopes to continue to serve the community within the Cesar Chavez Foundation, La Campesina and all organizations he currently serves with.
“I plan to continue to give back, to use my God given talents to help in any capacity which I am fortunate in serving, in helping others.”
2014 marks the 10-year anniversary of Cox Communications celebration for various Latino leaders in the Phoenix community. The Hispanic Heritage Month multi-media campaign includes a series of 30-second public service announcements highlighting outstanding Hispanic leaders and a Cox employee in Phoenix. The PSAs will rotate on Cox channels from mid-September through mid-October.
