Vela Scores Two Goals Agains Netherlands

By Francisco Romero.- Carlos Vela’s two goals against the Netherlands proved to be the deciding factor in the victory for Mexico in the rematch of the 2014 World Cup game.

The Netherlands eliminated Mexico from World Cup Play in Fortaleza Brazil during the summer with a score of 2-1.

Vela scored in the eighth and 62nd minute of play, while Javier “El Chicharito” Hernandez scored in the 69th minute of the game.

For Netherlands Wesley Sneijder and Daley Blind scored.

What was supposed to bring a sense of revenge and satisfaction for Mexican fans turned out to be just another friendly game with nothing at stake.

The victory left a great taste for El Tri fans, but more so for the successful return of Carlos Vela to the team, than the win.

The Real Sociedad player had refused to join the Mexican National Team since February of 2011.  He was asked numerous times to accompany the team for World Cup play and his continual refusal left him off the team for Brazil 2014.

The return of Vela and his two goals against the Netherlands has the critics praising Mexico and are even calling them favorites to win the 2015 Gold Cup.

It is no secret that Vela has been the most successful Mexican player playing in Europe, but how much will his return to the National Team turn into a successful run for Mexico heading into the 2015 Gold Cup or even the 2018 Russia World Cup?

Has Mexico all of a sudden return as the CONCACAF Giant?

Only time will answer those questions.  But the dynamics of “El Tri”, for sure, has changed.

Mexico’s European tour is not over yet it will face Belarus at Borisov Arena on November 18th
