Mexican Comedian Martin Urbano Killed It On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
Stand-up comedian Martin Urbano took a risk during his late night debut appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Performing a wry, self-deprecating set that you’d more likely see at a comedy club than on a national TV show (where pleasing a ‘mainstream’ audience is usually the strategy), Urbano quickly won over the audience (and several YouTube commenters). Urbano, who grew up in Brownsville, Texas and is now based in New York, covered lots of ground quickly, ending with a 3D glasses joke that is both simple and brilliant. So how did Urbano, an up-and-coming comic, score a gig on Jimmy Kimmel’s show? According to the Brownsville Herald, Kimmel watched a tape of one of Urbano’s sets, and that was enough for him to invite Urbano on the show. Based on this performance, it looks like Urbano has earned a return invite on the show.
