The Phoenix Mercury are on top of the WNBA world. Phoenix swept Chicago to win its third NBA Finals.
In the closest game of the Finals the Mercury beat the Sky 87-82.
With 14.3 seconds to play in the game, tied at 82, Argentinian Diana Taurasi hit a jumper and was fouled; Taurasi finished the three-point play and the Mercury never looked back.
“You have to enjoy it, you really have to enjoy it and today with two minutes left we enjoyed that,” said Taurasi after the game.
“This year has been unbelievable in what we have been able to achieve and we have done it together which there is no better feeling that that,” Turasi added.
Taurasi finished the game with 24 points and was named the Finals MVP; she was also the Finals MVP in 2009.
“I am just proud of coaching this team, it’s been an unbelievable season in Phoenix, it is one that I will savor for the rest of my life,” Phoenix coach Sandy Brondello said.
Even though the Mercury swept the series, Brondello knew it was not going to be easy. “I knew it was going to be a tight game, but I always had confidence we would close out, because that is what we have done all season long, there is a reason why we are 29 -5.”
For Chicago Delle Donne finished the game with 23 points.
Delle complemented the champions during a press conference, “They (Phoenix) are a phenomenal team, you have to give them all the credit in the world and they got Diana and with Diana anything is possible with her, and you got the rest of the Team and they are just a great group.”
