Mercury One Win Away From WNBA Title

Tuesday was just another day at the office for the Phoenix Mercury.  It wasn’t just any regular day, it was the second game of the WNBA Finals, but that didn’t matter, the result was the same.  

With superiority, grit and focused, the Mercury beat the Chicago Sky 97-68. 

The Sky came out playing hard during the first half of the game, they even had a lead during the second quarter, but that did not last long.

“They came out and played a really good first half, you saw the adjustments they made and it took us a little bit to get used to that,” said Mercury’s Diana Taurasi after the game. 

Taurasi finished the game with 18 points and 3 assists; center Brittney Griner added 19 points to the contest.

For the second game in a row the Mercury shot over 55 percent from the field. 

Tuesday night Phoenix finished the game with 56.1 percent making 37 of 55 shots.

“We got players who can put points in the board, and obviously when you got 52 points in the paint that means that you are getting high percentage shots,” said Mercury’s head coach Sandy Brondello.

Game 3 of the WNBA Finals will be played in Chicago and Brondello does not want to take anything for granted, “We need to be ready to play and expect a harder effort from Chicago,” Brondello said.

Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne finished the game with 22 points as the game’s top scorer. 

“We have to stop the bleeding a lot faster and we can’t make many mental mistakes, because they will make you pay for them,” Said Chicago’s Delle Donnes in regards to the adjustments they have to make for game 3 of the Finals.

With a 2-0 advantage in the best of five for the Mercury, the series will continue in Chicago next Friday.
