One of the toughest fights Floyd Mayweather has experienced in his career has left the door open for a rematch against Argentinian Marcos Maidana. Mayweather won the match Saturday night by majority decision unifying the WBC and WBA Welterweight Championships, but Maidana gave him a run for his money.

“It was a tough fight, which is what the fans wanted to see,” said Mayweather after the fight. “

“El Chino” Maidana’s team was sure he had won the fight and felt they got the short end of the stick. “I have to give him a rematch, because I won,” said the Argentinian after the bout. Mayweather responded by saying, “If the fans want to see it again, let’s do it again.”

Mayweather is scheduled to fight again in September and there are a handful of fighters that will be up to the challenge and are being contemplated. Keith Thurman, Amir Khan and Shawn Porter will be on of the fighters likely to face Mayweather in his next fight.

The strong showing and great spectacle that Maidana provided for the boxing world, makes a strong case for a rematch with Mayweather.

With the victory Saturday night, Mayweather’s record stand now at 46-0 with 26 KOs, while Maidana falls to 35-4 with 31 KOs.

This is how the judges scoring looked like: Bert Clements scored it 117-111 and Dave Moretti scored it 116-112, both in favor of Mayweather, Judge Michael Pernick scored it 114-114, a draw.

Even tough Maidana went home with a loss, the fans rewarded his intense and passionate style of fighting as he was cheered by a sold out crowd at the MGM Grand upon completion of the fight.

Mayweather was not happy with the way Maidana fought, comparing it to a WWE wrestling style.

Stay tuned as we shall find out soon who Mayweather’s next opponent will be.
