Known for her quirky videos, vibrant personality and posts, Maya Murillo is one of a kind.

From the age 16, she began her journey as an entrepreneur creating the popular blog, “Maya In the Moment.”

This opened doors to become social media correspondent for 2014 Latino Fashion Live, and a new role as social coordinator for Torres Multicultural Communications.

ArizonaLatinos.com spoke to Murillo about her new job, social media and how she got to where she is now.

AZL: Tell us about your blog and how you got started.

MM: It is a lifestyle blog featuring craft material, silly stories and beauty stories. I also incorporate YouTube videos, which at first it was to pass time. But once I graduated high school, I realized that I wanted to do this full-time. When I started Vine, there was one post that got viral and two of the shares were from Drake Bell and Jeremy Passion. I have just hit 78,000 followers.

AZL: Tell us about your partnership with Torres Multicultural Communications.

MM: I got approached by Will Medina, the Account Coordinator for the company, who asked me if I would like to be the Social Media Coordinator for Latino Fashion Live. From there, Torres Multicultural Communications offered me the position to be social media coordinator for their company.

Torres Multicultural Communication is a super hip company, where I can bring a lot to the table and I can learn a lot from as well. Our goal at is to connect more with the Latino community.

AZL: Did you always knew you wanted to work in media?

“If I can inspire Latinas to do something out of the norm then that would be great. It gives me purpose to use my voice to inspire others.”

MM:Yes. I grew up with two artsy parents. My mom started blogging in the early 2000s, when blogging first emerged from the internet world. Once YouTube started, I was interested in it and I grew up with it as well, so it feels right.

AZL: What do you think draws people to like and follow you?

MM: I am relatable. People can see when you are trying to get followers. I try to create an honest moment, and that is relatable to others. I am genuine with my content and also straight up. If I can get my viewers to smile it feels great.

AZ: What platform of social media gets your most likes?

MM: Definitely Vine. It is a quick place for me to put content on. Whenever I have an idea it is easy to put out there.

AZL: Where does Maya see herself next?

MM: I see myself traveling the world, still representing the young Latina and corresponding with different companies. But before this, I can see myself taking the social media at Torres Multicultural Communication to the next level.

AZL: What does Maya In The Moment mean to you?

MM: It means living in the moment and not taking things too seriously. And of course, being grateful for everything I have.

AZL: What is the message that you want to send to Latinas who want to follow your footsteps?

MM: Focus and zone in on what message you want to send out to the world. Everything that I do, I find the purpose and see how it will benefit the viewers.

AZL: What do you think is the key to being a successful entrepreneur?

MM: Being Focused. Pin point what you want out of it. Grab what you want, be successful, and go for it.
