Latino Immigrants Receive Fewer Unemployment Benefits
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Latino unemployment stands at 10% while the national average sits at 7.7%. Yet a recent study by the National Employment Law Project (NELP) released this month shows that Latino immigrants are less likely than their white counterparts to receive unemployment insurance. They don’t apply in as high of percentages of those eligible, and they don’t get them once they do as frequently.
