Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez are the next possible contenders against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. The plan was for Canelo to face Cotto on May of 2015.

Cotto was expected to fight between now and May 2015, but not against Chavez Jr. There was not set date or a contender, but Chavez Jr. was not in the original plan.

All seems to point out that Chavez Jr. will have the first shot at fighting Cotto either next November or December.

Chavez Jr. will have to go down to 160 lbs. if he is to fight Cotto. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. has said that his son will not have any problems going down in weight. He stated that Chavez Jr. has been working out hard every day and getting ready for whatever comes next.

Cotto told ESPN that both Alvarez and Chavez Jr. are on his list of opponents for upcoming fights.

Last June Cotto beat Sergio Martinez becoming the first Puerto Rican to win championships in four weight divisions. The last time Chavez Jr. fought was last March when he beat Brian Vera, while Alvarez beat Erislandy Lara on Saturday.

Cotto vs. Alvarez or Cotto vs. Chavez Jr. seem to be very attractive matches, but the reality is that the boxing fans are waiting to see “El Canelo” fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The thought is that a fight between the Mexican boxers would break records in attendance and pay-per-view revenue.

The possibility of this match is there, but the question is when?
