Hues of Ego: ‘Fashion for Today’s Multifaceted Woman’
By: Cindy G. Castillo
Fashion designer Natasha Duran-Lynch’s passion for the arts goes beyond a creative mind. Art was the outlet she needed to push through tough times.
“[Art] got me through tough moments when I questioned myself and my being on this earth,” she said, “It was my outing and how I became stronger.”
In 2001, she graduated from Arizona State University, where she was the first member of her family to attend college. Her original major in Architecture in Design helped set the base for what would be her ultimate passion for fashion design.
Today, she’s the designer behind “Hues of Ego,” a brand that’s making strides in the Valley and pushing women to become a “more sophisticated, bolder version of themselves.”
Duran-Lynch’s decision to kick off her own clothing line was indeed a bold one, and she admits being nervous at the beginning. But lucky for her, the public’s response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s been very surprising for me,” she says, “ I feel very honored, very lucky and at the same time it feels surreal like ‘is this real still?’, ‘am I really doing this?’ do people really like my stuff?’”
The inspiration behind the line comes from the everyday woman and her ability to wear different hats throughout her life, including that of a mother, a professional, and more.
Her next collection focuses on the woman as a professional, and the moment she chooses to take her career into a male-dominated field.
“[It’s inspired by] what you have to do to be in that field, like make a name for yourself, being strong every second,” she explains, “what I feel will make a women feel powerful in that setting and at the same time sexy.”
The new collection currently in the works is called “It’s a Woman’s World,” and it’s created with the intention of taking the power suit to a whole new level –making it still tailored and structured, but adding more femininity to it.
Natasha’s goals with her line reach even further, as she’d like to make her brand known far outside of Arizona.
“The feeling that I get when I’m creating is the same feeling that I want them to get from what they’re wearing,” she said.
Her influences in the fashion world include Coco Chanel, Elie Saab, Zac Posen, and Stephane Rolland – to name a few. When it comes to architecture, she’s inspired by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright.
“[Lloyd Wright] would potentially do things to make you feel a certain way and I feel like there’s true art in that,” she said, “I think that’s beautiful and I just want to keep telling stories of how my brain works, and make women feel beautiful and feel powerful.”
