How Cardi B Got Her Name

Celebrities being in the public eye can make it difficult for people to be able to relate to them, let alone understand them. Although we’ve seen the “Bodak Yellow” rapper grow to be a huge star, Cardi is always open and honest, and we love her down-to-earth nature. The Bronx native recently decided to give the world another glimpse into her personal life during an interview on The Wendy Williams Show. She revealed where “Cardi B” came from, telling Williams, “My sister’s name is Hennessy, so everybody used to be like ‘Bacardi’ to me.” “Then, I shortened it to Cardi B. The ‘B’ stands for whatever, depending on the day…beautiful or bully,” she added. Maybe the “B” stands for Belcalis, her birth name! Either way, the moniker is part of what makes her so unique.

Her distinct personality has helped win over the hearts of millions of supporters, and secure amazing opportunities. After teaming up with Bacardi for the “Dress to be Free” event in New York City, and seeing so many young girls dress up as her for Halloween, Cardi B realized that she wanted to make some changes.

The 25-year-old shared a video on Instagram saying, “A lot of little girls, they be looking up to me.” “They love me…I think to myself, yo i really need to be a better example… I’m going to change for you little girls because I deadass love ya,” she continued.

While some may agree that the Trinidadian/Dominican needs to clean up her act, others say she has her own audience that loves her for exactly who she is. What side are you on? Whatever she’s doing seems to be working for her, though! With “Bodak Yellow topping Billboard‘s Hot 100 for 18 consecutive weeks, we can only hope 2018 is as good to us as 2017 was to Cardi B.
