Facebook users have been asking for a “dislike” button for years — now, Mark Zuckerberg has listened.
During a recent Q&A session at Facebook’s headquarters, Zuckerberg announced that the social network is currently in the works for the new button.
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” he said.
The Facebook CEO said the button hadn’t been done earlier is because he didn’t want to give the site a “Reddit-style” culture of upvoting and down voting. “That isn’t what we’re here to build in the world,” he said.
So that’s not what Facebook hopes for with the new button. Instead, it wants to give people the ability to “express empathy,” or just a wider array of emotions to express.
Surprisingly enough, Zuckerberg said that the company had been working on the button for a while, but have been struggling to finalize it. “It’s surprisingly complicated to make an interaction that will be simple,” he said.
