Enrique Peña Nieto: Mexican Drug Lord ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Recaptured
Mexican drug lord “El Chapo” Guzman has been recaptured.
President Enrique Peña Nieto took to Twitter on Friday to make the announcement, after Guzman had escaped from a Mexican prison back in July.
“Mission accomplished: we have him,” he wrote, “I want to inform all Mexicans that Joaquín Guzmán Loera has been detained.”
Minutes later, he Tweeted out a note of gratitude to Mexican security officials who made Guzman’s arrest possible.
The head of the infamous Sinaloa Cartel was first caught back in 2014 during an early morning raid in Sinaloa.
In July, however, Guzman staged his jailbreak, escaping through a mile-long tunnel that ran straight from his cell.
Guzman has been described by Forbes magazine as the ‘biggest drug lord of all time.’
