Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez vindicated himself in the ring after punishing Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo. The victory helped erase some of the memories of Canelo’s loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. from last year.
47 seconds into the tenth round referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight giving Alvarez a win by Technical Knockout. As the referee stopped the fight Angulo pleaded his case to continue fighting to no avail.
During the first rounds of the match both boxers exchanged punches, but it was clear that Alvarez’s punches were being more effective. Canelo was just too much to handle for Angulo; he was sharp and effective. It was clear that Canelo came in to the fight with a plan and stuck to it. Canelo’s quickness dominated in the fight.
The crowd was not pleased with the decision, but Angulo’s punished face told the story of the bout. The crowd booed the referee’s decision.
With the win Alvarez’s record stands now at (43-1-1, 31 KOs), while Angulo’s stands at (22-4, 18 KOs).
After the fight Angulo mentioned that he could have fought the rest of the match. He criticized the referee by saying he did the wrong job.
The fight did not live up to its expectations, it was expected for Angulo to be bettered prepared and to give Canelo more for his money.
Alvarez is expected to fight two more times this year. The dates are not set yet, but are expected to take place around July and November.
“Tonight I was the best fighter,” mentioned Canelo and added that he was better prepared than his previous fight against Mayweather Jr.
For the fight Alvarez, earned a minimum of $1.15 million, Angulo, was expected to make around $850,000.
