Forward Giovani dos Santos was introduced to the Los Angeles media this week after signing with Los Angles Galaxy.
It was a strange sighting as the Mexican player sat next to former U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bruce Arena; they now belong on the same team.
“This is a great team, this is where I will be able to win championships. A lot of great players have played here. There are a lot of Mexicans here in Los Angeles, which played an important role in my decision to play here,” said dos Santos during his introductory press conference.
Dos Santos has been a hit ever since it was announced his signing with the Galaxy, “I am very thankful for all the support I have received since I stepped foot in this city. Fans have shown up during training sessions, my teammates, the front office, everyone has supported me,” said the 26-year-old native of Monterrey, Mexico.
Bruce Arena stated that dos Santo will play Thursday against Central FC, “We are thrilled as a team and an organization to have Giovani as a part of us now. I think he is another strong piece in that puzzle that we try to piece together every year in our attempt to make our team the best in the league,” said the head coach.
“Giovani is a player with a lot of talent, a player in my belief who has a great future and is not even close to attaining the quality that he can attain as a player. I’m hopeful that his experience with the LA Galaxy continues his growth as a player,” added Arena.
If all goes well on Thursday, dos Santos will play against Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, “I have played in a lot of teams throughout my career, I have experienced different cultures, different languages, different styles of play, all of that should help me be successful here,” said dos Santos.
