On Sept. 26-27, the Hispanic Women’s Corporation (HWC), one of the largest and oldest Latina-led nonprofit in the United States, is hosting its 28th Professional Development and Leadership Institute that will bring together more than 3,000 attendees, businesses, community leaders, and public officials. To learn more about this event, please visit www.hispanicwomen.org.

The conference is the premier professional development and networking opportunity for Latinas. Don’t miss it! Register now. Individuals, corporations and nonprofits can register online for the conference at www.hispanicwomen.org

This year’s theme is Courage! Conviction! Commitment!

The Institute is the premier professional development and networking opportunity for Latinas in Arizona. The event will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center, West Building, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.

The HWC Institute is one of the the longest-running conferences on Latina empowerment in the U.S. What began with a few hundred participants 28 years ago has grown to an audience of over 3,000 people and is now a must-attend event with strong community support.

The HWC annual conference has kept pace with the burgeoning Hispanic population and purchasing power. In 2010, Hispanic purchasing power was $34 billion. It is projected to grow another 50 percent to $50.3 billion by 2015, according to DATOS 2012, an annual report of Hispanic Arizona.

In the past twenty years, Latinas have become a large and influential segment of the U.S. population. Latinas are the growth engine of the U.S. female population and are expected to represent 30 percent of the total female population by 2060, while the non-Hispanic white female population is expected to drop to 43 percent.

“It is an exciting time to be a Latina, and our conference reflects the growing influence of Latinas professionally and in our community,” says Linda Mazon Gutierrez, HWC President/CEO.  “Now more than ever, the Hispanic women’s conference serves as a source of inspiration, empowerment, and wealth-building among Hispanics.”

Mazon Gutierrez points out that Arizona is home to an estimated 65,000 Hispanic-owned businesses, of which about 20,000 are owned by Latinas. In 2011, Latinas owned 14 percent of the women-owned businesses in Arizona.

In addition, Latinas are a driving force behind Hispanic purchasing power in Arizona and the United States, according to a Nielsen study released Aug. 1, 2013. Latinas are becoming more educated, tech savvy and connected, allowing them to write their own destinies and to strengthen the dynamics of Hispanic households.

The 28th Professional Development and Leadership Institute will feature engaging workshops and inspiring speakers. Workshop highlights include the themes of financial literacy and empowerment, retirement planning, career enhancements, health & beauty, and family dynamics.

The conference also will host an art exhibit, an Expo Center and will present a sophisticated fashion show showcasing professional and casual wear for Latinas.

In addition, the HWC will honor exemplary Latinas who have influenced their industry and have contributed in Arizona and nationwide.

The HWC proudly dedicates one day of the Institute towards outreach to our younger student population. Each year HWC invites 700 youth from junior high and high schools around the country. The Youth Leadership Institute is on Thursday, Sept. 26, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and focuses on offering junior and high school students the guidance and information necessary to pursue their academic and career goals. Each year HWC awards almost 50 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

The Hispanic Women’s Corporation extends a special Thank You to all individuals, corporations and organizations that made the 2013 HWC Professional Development and Leadership Institutes possible.
