Diamondbacks Trade Parra and Prado, Deadline a Busy One

A busy one it was, the non-waiver trade deadline, provided 12 trades involving 37 different players.  

Undoubtedly, the blockbuster deal of the deadline was the one between the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays, a trade that landed Cy Young Award Winner David Price in Detroit.  

It was a three-team trade; in return the Rays received lefty Drew Smyly and infielder Willy Adames from Detroit.  Nick Franklin from Seattle was also sent to Tampa, the Mariners received Austin Jackson from Detroit.   

Looking to win their fourth consecutive division title, the tigers have the last three American League Cy Young Award winners in their rotation: David Price, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.  

The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to trade away veterans Martin Prado and Gerardo Parra.  

Parra was traded to the Brewers in exchange for Outfielder Mitch Haniger and Pitcher Anthony Banda.  

Prado was sent to the Yankees for catcher Peter O’Brien and a player to be named or cash.

Haniger, 23, was hitting .255 with seven doubles, 10 homers and 34 RBIs at Double-A Huntsville in the Brewers organization.  

Banda, 20, has started 14 games for Class A Wisconsin with a record of 6-6 with two saves and a 3.66 ERA.   

O’Brien, 24, is a power hitting catcher. His combined stats at Class A Tampa and Double-A Trenton this season are the following: A .267 batting average with 23 doubles, 33 homers and 70 RBIs.
