DiamondBacks’ Tom Harris Honored by Phoenix Business Journal
The Arizona Diamondbacks Chief Financial Officer Tom Harris was honored on October 28th at the Phoenix Business Journal’s Most Outstanding CFOs luncheon held at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
Eight local CFOs were honored at the luncheon for their vision in helping their respective companies plan for the future.
Harris has been serving the D-backs for 19 years, and is currently the Executive Vice President & CFO managing all general accounting, finance, stadium operations, risk management and administrative activities. He also ensures that all operations are in accordance with goals of ownership and meet appropriate objectives.
On Nov. 6, the AZ Business Magazine will be presenting the Financial Executives International (FEI) Arizona Chapter CFO of the Year Award, for which Harris is proudly nominated along with other 5 competitors.
Through Harris’ leadership role, the team eliminated more than $175 million of debt in the last eight years through equity and debt restructures. A native of Winslow, AZ, he has become a key component in the opening of the D-back’s Spring Training facility, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, as well as the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game held at Chase Field.
Most importantly, Harris is a proud member of the board for the Special Olympics Arizona, the American Heart Association, and is also a board member for the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation as well as the Thunderbirds. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from Arizona State University and was inducted into the ASU School of Business Hall of Fame in 2005.
