Diamondbacks Report Early for Spring Training
Spring Training 2014 will be like no other for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pitchers and catchers reported to camp on Thursday February 6th, a week before any other team.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers will start the regular season earlier than any other Major League Baseball team, as they will have a two game series, against each other, in Australia.
Opening Day for both teams will be March 22nd; the teams will face off at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground, which will be fully renovated to a baseball configuration and Major League standards. Both teams will play a second regular season game on March 23rd with the Diamondbacks being the home team.
For both teams it will be a different feel to Spring Training, they will be back in the United States to finish their spring games followed by regular season games once again.
The Diamondback open the regular season at home March 31st, against the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers start their regular season games in the U.S. on March 30th against the Padres in San Diego.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers have created a healthy rivalry over the years. With new acquisitions during the off-season, Arizona will compete in the National League West for a play off spot. One of the biggest acquisitions for the Diamondbacks was power hitter Mark Trumbo.
The Dodgers will try to build upon a great 2013 season where they finished with a record of 92-70 in the west. The St. Louis Cardinals eliminated the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
NOTES:
Former Arizona Diamondback’s pitcher Curt Schilling revealed on Wednesday he has cancer. Schilling pitched 20 years in the majors for 5 different teams; he finished his career with 216 wins and a 3.46 ERA.
