Diamondback Faced Dodgers in Opening Game of Spring Training

Major League Baseball has arrived at its fullest to the Valley of the Sun. The Cactus League opener featured the Arizona Diamondback versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The same two teams that will open the regular season in Australia, later next month.
The Diamondbacks won the first game by a score of 4-1 behind the pitching of Brandon McCarthy who worked four frames in the contest.
Dodgers ace Kleyton Kershaw pitched two innings in the defeat. Kershaw struggled a bit giving up three runs. The Diamondback got five hits including two doubles and a triple off Kershaw.
The only offense the Dodgers were able to produce was in the third inning when Yasiel Puig doubled home Carl Crawford.
For the Diamondbacks Martin Prado had 2 hits as well as Aaron Hill.
Phoenix Suns Lose Third Straight Game
After winning three games in a row after the All-Star Break, the Phoenix Suns have now lost three in a row.
Wednesday night the Suns lost to the Utah Jazz 109-86.
It was not pretty as Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Phoenix native Richard Jefferson finished the game with 17 points. The Jazz had 10 players score in double figures.
For the Suns Gerald Green finished the game with 17 points.
The Suns were outscored in every quarter of the game. Phoenix’s biggest lead of the game was one point.
Next the Suns will face New Orleans on Friday.
Sun Devils Win at Home
The Arizona State University basketball team won its 20th game of the season Wednesday night by defeating Stanford University 76-64.
ASU’s record stands now at 20-8, 9-6 in Pac 12 play. While the Cardinal fell to 18-9, 9-6 in Pac 12 play.
Both teams are trying to make it to the NCAA tournament. Assuring a 20-win season and a win over Arizona, ASU has a good case in front of them.
ASU’s Jahil Carson finished the game with 26 points, scoring 23 of them in the second half, while shooting 8-8 from the free throw line. Stanford’s leading scorer was Anthony Brown who finished with 21 points.
ASU will face the University of California Bears on Saturday March 1st.
