Built in 1914, Wrigley Field has seen almost everything there is to see in baseball, but Tuesday night there was a first in the friendly confines of the North Side Chicago Stadium.

For the first time in Cubs history the club clinched a postseason at home.

The Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 in game 4 of the American League Division Series.

The Cardinals finished the regular season with the best record in baseball (100-62).

The Cubs finished last year with a record of 73-89 and in last place in the National League Central Division.

Even though the Cubs, in 2015, finished in third place in the Central Division, they were able to make the playoffs with a record of 97-65, along with the Cardinals and the Pirates from the same division.

Manager Joe Maddon used seven relievers after Jason Hammel was taken out after 3 innings; Hammel allowed 2 runs on 3 hits.

The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the young Cubs were able to come back and taking the game.

Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber homered for the Cubs.

“This is what you live to play baseball for is playing in front of your home crowd in the playoffs. Then coming into the dugout, you know, our team is awesome. I can say it over and over again, the personalities that we have in the clubhouse are unbelievable, and it makes it so much fun to come to the ballpark every day,” said Schwarber after the game.

Maddon is confident that the make-up of his team will be key to keep them alive during the rest of the postseason, “They’re just really accountable, young baseball players that are very skilled. Combine that with this wonderful group of veterans that give them good information on a daily basis. Everybody bought in from Spring Training on,” said the manager after the game.

The Cubs are waiting for the winner of the Dodgers – Mets series to determine who they will face in the National League Championship series.
