By Francisco Romero. – After months of negotiations, the stage and date has been set for the Miguel Cotto Vs. Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez Fight.
The fight will take place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 21st.
The much-anticipated bout will feature two of the current top fighters in the sport; it will enhance the Puerto Rico – Mexico rivalry.
Cotto is taking this fight as just-another-day-at-the office, “I just can say that this fight is just another fight. I’m going to go to L.A. when we decide to go there, do my best as always, and go for Vegas to beat Canelo the night of the 21st,” Said Cotto during a telephone conference.
The fight will be held at 155 lbs.; at stake is the middleweight title that Cotto holds.
“This is a fight I’ve been craving and wanting so bad; am very happy that we have managed this fight. I am very grateful to all the fans,” said Canelo during the telephone conference call.
Former world boxing champion turned promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, sees this fight as one of the biggest in recent years, “The fight is huge now. Obviously we recognize that in May, Mayweather-Pacquiao was taking place, and now that that fiasco is all over with, we can focus on promoting the biggest fight in the history of the sport in November,” said de la Hoya. “It’s going to be one of those events that the world is going to talk about for many years to come.”
With the understanding that he is facing one of the best boxers the sport has ever seen, Caleno says he will get ready for the victory, “The winner of this fight is the one that’s going to train better, that’s going to work harder and that’s going to be able to lay out that plan inside the ring, and that’s what I’m going to work for. I’m going to prepare myself to win.”
Other notable fights between Puerto Rican and Mexican fighters have featured Salvador Sanchez against Wilfredo Gomez; Julio Cesar Chavez against Hector “Macho” Camacho and Oscar de la Hoya against Felix “Tito” Trinidad.
