By Francisco Romero. – In a fight that will be remembered for years to come Conor McGregor evened the score with Nate Diaz at one-a-piece. McGregor beat Diaz in an epic fight that went back and forth for five rounds; the fight took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor won the welterweight title by a majority decision.

The purses for the fight were of record setting proportions as McGregor earned a guaranteed $3 million while Diaz was guaranteed $2 million dollars.

The Judges for the fight scored as follows:

Jeff Mullen and Derek Cleary scored 48-47 in favor of McGregor, (giving him the first, second and fourth rounds); Glenn Trowbridge scored 47-47 giving a 10-8 round for Diaz in the third round.

McGregor felt vindicated after losing to Diaz back in March.

“It was a hell of a fight, it was a very close fight, I feel very happy with it,” McGregor told the assembled press after the bout.

McGregor described Diaz as a tough fighter, but was able to follow his plan that eventually took him to victory, “I stayed calmed, I stayed patient, I didn’t rush, took my smacks.”

Undoubtedly it was a close fight, so close that Diaz was sure he had won, “Obviously I think I can get better and do better things, I thought I won the fight, but they gave it to him,” said Diaz during a post fight meeting with the media. “He did a lot of running, he ran the whole fight,” Diaz added.

Diaz pointed out that he did not come into the fight fully healthy, although he said that it was not an excuse.

With McGregor’s victory all arrows point to a possible third fight between McGregor and Diaz, as to when that could that place, it is to soon to speculate.
