colombia usa 3erBy Francisco Romero. – The United States Men’s National Team just had no answers against Colombia in two games in the Copa America Centenario. Colombia beat the U.S. to open the tournament 2-0 and again 1-0 Saturday night for third place.

The game was played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Carlos Bacca scored for Colombia at the 31st minute of the game and that was enough for the Cafeteros for the win.

The loss was the second for the United States against Colombia in its quest to finish third in the tournament, in 1995 Colombia also kept the U.S. in fourth place.

At the 51st minute of the game the United States had one of its best opportunities to score, Cling Dempsey sent a free kick over the Colombian wall, it was a shot for the top right corner of the goal, but Colombian goalie David Ospina made an incredible stop to prevent the ball from going into the net.

For the U.S. Michael Orozco made his first start of the tournament in Saturday’s match; it was his second appearance of the competition.

Four United States players started in all five matches in the 2016 Copa America Centenario: Michael Bradley, Cameron, Clint Dempsey and Gyasi Zardes.

The U.S. MNT returns to action in September with a final pair of Semifinal Round World Cup Qualifying games. First the USA heads to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sept. 2 before returning home to face Trinidad & Tobago at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., on Sept. 9.
