She’s also the author of the critically acclaimed YA novel Juliet Takes a Breath. And we thought that was a major look for the comic universe, but the folks at Marvel are taking America Chavez to the next level as she becomes a member of the animated franchise Marvel Rising.
According to Marvel press release, we get to see these new characters in action as part of a full-length animated movie in 2018. Since it’s a Marvel production, we know adventure and an epic story will be on deck because as executive producer Cort Lane said in the promo trailer: “There are heroes and then there are Marvel heroes, which are very much about character.” The program will “launch with six, four-minute shorts” and intro Marvel Rising then the Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will bow later next year.
Expect to see more characters of color, which is an essential part of the comic giant’s strategy to appeal to the next generation of Marvel fans—because they have to see themselves on big and small screens.
“We wanted to show the world that these heroes are important to the Marvel universe—that there is a character for every kind of Marvel fan out there,” said Sana Amanat, director of content character and development.
There’s a gang of star power on deck to voice these new superheroes, including Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet and Cierra Ramirez as America Chavez. Ramirez who is known for her work on The Fosters and the Secret Life of the American Teenager tweeted: “The Next Generation of @Marvel superheroes have arrived @MarvelRisingSW and I’m honored to be Miss America!”
