The second season of Hulu’s largely acclaimed series, “East Los High” is here this summer and promises to bring high school drama to a whole new level.
Two of the newest cast additions, Latina actresses Alexandra Segal (Gina) and Vivian Lamolli (Filiberta) share their excitement and what’s to come in this astounding new season.
Born and raised in south Florida, Segal is a music lover with 5 years in the acting industry. She moved to Los Angeles straight out of high school to pursue her artistic talents.
“As an actor, I grew up so much not only in meeting all of these talented people in the show, but just trying to perfect your craft, and this is such an amazing opportunity to do so,” she said.
Lamolli also grew up in the sunshine state, she is Puerto Rican and Cuban from a loving military family. From a very young age, she knew that she belonged in the entertainment industry.
Both of these beautiful Latinas were fortunate to have full support from their families, but also challenged them along the way.
“They would challenge, but if I never follow my dreams, I will never know what life I want to lead … there are challenges, but there are also beautiful opportunities,” Lamolli said.
“East Los High” Season 2 promises to once again fill its halls with romance, dancing and mystery. Ceci (Danielle Vega) returns to coach the Bomb Squad, struggling to take the unruly dance team to state championships.
Lamolli’s character, Filiberta, is a spunky Junior in high school, and member of the Bomb Squad.
“She has all of her girlfriends … the Bomb Squad is huge for her, and it’s something where secretly she thinks that she can be captain,” Lamolli said.
“It was so much fun to be a part of this, and I think this season was a lot more dancing than last and all of the actors are dancing,” Segal added.
The new 12 episode season will tackle issues such as homosexuality in high school and bullying, promising to bring the high school drama to a whole new level.
Every episode will offer a message to its viewers to reflect on, and hopes to open a discussion between parents and children on the issues that are happening throughout high school.
“Parents should be watching this alongside with their kids and it could definitely shed some light into what goes on during high school or beyond,” Lamolli said.
The show also addresses teen pregnancy and domestic abuse.
“Topics that you just didn’t talk about (before) and nowadays I feel like it’s very important to be informed and discuss things,” Segal explained, “it’s ok to talk about things, and the show definitely promotes that.”
East los High features an all Latino cast introducing Vannessa Vasquez, Andrea Sixtos, Ray Diaz, Alexandra Rodriguez, Ashley Campuzano, Rick Mancia, Jeremy Chavarria & Vivian Lamoli.
Along with Danielle Vega, East Los High season 2 also sees the return of fan faves Team Jacob & Maya: Gabriel Chavarria, Alicia Sixtos and resident bad girl Tracy Perez as Vanessa.
“East Los High” was created by Carlos Portugal and Kathleen Bedoya and is produced by Prajna Productions, The Alchemists, Into Action Films, and Population Media Center.
