Carlos Vela Last Played for the Mexican National Team in February 2011 Against Venezuela

By Francisco Romero.- Mexico will face the Netherlands on Wednesday, a rematch of the World Cup round of 16 game in Fortaleza, Brazil.  A heart-breaking game for El Tri that ended up with a 2-1 Netherland’s victory and the elimination of Mexico.

The rematch is not the main topic of conversation for Mexico’s upcoming game.  The focus is on the return of Real Sociedad’s star Carlos Vela.

Vela has not played for El Tri since February of 2011.

The young star was instrumental in Mexico’s success to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Vela has since refused to join the Mexican National Team and missed the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

El Tri’s head coach Miguel Herrera asked Vela numerous times for his participation, but Vela’s refusal to be part the team continued.

It now seems that the problems Vela had with his national team are over and accepted an invitation to play against Netherland.

In its current European trip, Mexico will also play against Belarus.  It is not known yet if Vela will start any of the games, but he is expected to play significant minutes in both matches.

Mexico’s 22-player roster includes the following:

Goalies: Guillermo Ochoa (Málaga) y Alfredo Talavera (Toluca).

Defense: Julio César Domínguez (Cruz Azul), Hugo Rodríguez (Pachuca), Gerardo Venegas (Atlas), Paul Aguilar (América), Miguel Herrera (Pachuca), Goerge Corral (Querétaro), Miguel Ángel Ponce (Toluca), Oswaldo Alanís (Santos), Diego Reyes (Porto) y Adrián Aldrete (Santos).

Midfielder: José Juan Vázquez (León), Jonathan dos Santos (Villarreal), Héctor Herrera (Porto), Jesús “Tecatito” Corona (Twente), Andrés Guardado (PSV) y Arturo González (Atlas).

Forwards: Raúl Jiménez (Atlético de Madrid), Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad), Javier Hernández (Real Madrid) y Giovani dos Santos (Villarreal).
