In making sure they have one of the key elements in place until 2017, the Cardinals, have extended quarterback’s Carson Palmer contract for three years.

ESPN.com reported that the contract is worth $50 million.  Palmer was eligible for free agency after the current season.

The Cardinals have been a solid team with Palmer as a quarterback.  He started the first game of the season, and then he was out for three weeks with a shoulder injury.  With Palmer as a quarterback the Cardinals are 5-0.

Palmer is 35 years old, but shows no signs of slowing down.  He was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders.  The two-time Pro-Bowler threw for 4,74 yards for the in his first year with Arizona.

Out of the University of Southern California, the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Palmer where he played from 2003 – 2010; he was a member of the Oakland Raiders from 2011 – 2012.

“Carson has played at an incredibly high level and has been a huge part of the team’s success,” said general manager Steve Keim through a team statement. “When you combine his on-field performance with the leadership, stability and professionalism he brings to our team, there was no question that we wanted to extend the relationship and we are excited he felt the same way.”

Palmer and the Arizona Cardinals will host the St. Louis Rams Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium.
