By Francisco Romero.- The Arizona Cardinals have the best record in the National Football Conference after beating the Dallas Cowboys 28-17 on Sunday.
The Cardinals improved to 7-1 and are in first place in the NFC West.
Arizona’s quarterback Carson Palmer was able to find his rhythm after falling behind the Cowboys 10-0. Palmer threw an interception to Tyler Patmon with 10:55 to go in the first quarter; Patmon returned the interception 58 yards for a touchdown.
Things changed in the second quarter and the Cardinals never looked back.
Arizona’s John Carlson caught a 7-yard pass, from Palmer; with 12:39 remaining in the second quarter for the first of three Touch Down passes for Palmer.
“We are a scrappy group, all over the place, offense, defense, special teams; we have a great fight about us, a great mindset that nothing is too big to overcome,” Palmer said after the game.
Arizona’s quarterback finished the game with 249 yards, competing 22 of 34 passes.
Playing without injured quarterback Tony Romo, the Cowboys offense had a hard time against a gritty Cardinals defense.
“Hats off to the defensive line, linebackers, and safeties, because we missed some tackles,” said a pleased Arizona head coach Bruce Arians.
Brandon Weeden, playing in place of Romo, finished the game completing 18 of 33 passes for 183 yard and one touch down; he was intercepted twice.
The Cardinals seem to improve as the season goes on; Arizona scored a touch down on all four possessions inside the red zone. The Cardinals have had trouble all season in red zone efficiency.
“I like the way we came out of the locker room, we’ve done a good job all season of coming out and setting a tone in the first five minutes,” added head coach Bruce Arians during his post game conference.
The Cardinals will host the Rams next week at University of Phoenix Stadium. Kick off is set for 2:25 PM.
