Cardinals Clinch Playoff Berth in Close Win Against Vikings
By Francisco Romero. – It may not have been the prettiest game the Arizona Cardinals have played this season, but it was good enough for the win and a post-season berth.
The Cardinals beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-20 on Thursday Night Football at University of Phoenix Stadium.
It was a hard-fought battle for both teams; the first half ended in a 10-10 tie.
The Cardinals receivers’ corps once again was the key in the victory.
Once again Michael Floyd had an amazing performance with 102 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Arizona’s quarterback Carson Palmer finished the game with 310 passing yards on 25-for-35 and 2 touchdowns. Palmer set a new franchise record with 31 touchdowns passes in a season. Kurt Warner held the record with 30 touchdowns passes in 2008.
The Vikings did not go down without a fight as they tied the game at 20 in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals were able to put together a 55-yard drive that set up a 47-yard field goal for Chandler Catanzaro with 1:23 to go in the game.
The field goal sealed the win as Arizona won its 11th game of the season; the Cardinals record stands now at 11-2.
For the Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater finished the game with 335 passing yards on 25-for-36.
The Cardinals lead the NFC West and will keep a close look at the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens this weekend, if the Seahawks lose the game, the Cardinals will clinch the division.
With the Minnesota Vikings record is now 8-5.
“Just a good win for us, it was a weird game, it was just an odd game, but good teams come up at the end and pull those out and we did that,” Cardinals’ quarterback Palmer said after the game.
Arizona’s next game will be in Philadelphia on December 20th, as they will face the Eagles.
