Camila Cabello Would Create A Telenovela Inspired Music Video For ‘Havana’

Jorge Rodriguez-Jimenez

This is one steamy music video.

Camila Cabello has released her music video for “Havana” and it’s basically a short film filled with lots of twists and turns. The Cuban-Mexican pop star plays a nerdy, shy young woman named Karla who would much rather watch novelas with her abuela than go out on the town. But soon, something changes. Maybe it’s the constant teasing by her older sister. Maybe it’s the wise advice abuela gives her. Perhaps it’s the romantic movie she watches about Havana. By the end of the video, this little wallflower makes a major transformation.

It’s filled with all the ridiculous plot twists and melodrama we’ve come to expect from novelas. There’s a love triangle, a surprise twin, and a proposal all in a matter of seconds.

We’re then introduced to a quiet, shy Karla, who is obsessed with the novela.

Karla’s obsession with novelas concerns her abuela… and annoys her sister. But she doesn’t care.

“I know you’d rather be home but life isn’t going to come knocking on your door. You need to learn to start living your life.”

That’s when Karla goes off on her own and watches a movie.

That’s right. Karla’s idea of a fun night out on the town is to go to the movies alone. Of course, she chooses a romantic move about Havana.

Finally, Karla lets herself envision a world in which she is fun, carefree, and living.

Get it, girl. You better live, honey.

And, yes, you’ll get to see Cabello dance because it is a Cuban-themed movie.

You guessed it, she pulls out the chancla on Karla and her sister.

Her love interest is played by Noah Centineo.

Watch the end of the video to see how this love story wraps up.

If you watch until the very end, you’ll see an end card that reads: “This is dedicated to the Dreamers.” Cabello recently pledged all proceeds from the song to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), but it’s not confirmed if that’s the point of the shout out. Cabello said she chose to make that donation to the ACLU due to their work with undocumented youth.
