The former Destiny’s Child vocalist captioned the photo “Sir Carter and Rumi 1 month today.” It was a great first look at the adorable babies and confirmation of their names. Sir is an easy name to decode since it speaks for itself, but the name Rumi comes from the Persian poet Jalal al-Din Rumi, whose writings about religion, love and being of service have influenced artists for many generations.

The photo of Mrs. Carter reflects La Virgen de Guadalupe, which is the Catholic name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is associated with a venerated image enshrined within the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. In Mexico, to celebrate the La Virgen people place flowers on her altar, similar to the way Queen Bee did in the photo. This isn’t the first time she’s paid homage to religious characters. Early in her pregnancy, the artist created a virgin-like photoshoot with a Dominican photographer, which also went viral. It’s safe to say Bey admires Latin culture and we appreciate her for it.
