Aterciopelados is a Colombian rock band and they’re all set to bring their sound to the Valley.

Led by Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, the group has been one of the first rock bands from Colombia to gain international notice and is among the country’s top groups. Their music is a fusion of rock with a variety of Colombian and Latin American musical traditions.

But their performances aren’t all about music. The group has also earned honorable mentions by the United Nations for their work denouncing violence in Colombia. Their music speaks to issues such as political injustice, women’s rights and environmental destruction.

In 2007, they earned the Latin Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album for “Oye.”
