By Francisco Romero. – The beauty of baseball is that anything can happen to anyone at any place.

Friday night, it happened to Astros’ pitcher Mike Fiers as he tossed a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Minute Maid Park, the Astros won 3-0.

An emotional Fiers talked after the game about how he was able to accomplish a dream he had as a child, “One of those moments you don’t get often and for me this is the one time to pitch a no-hitter in a big league ball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers which is amazing, is everything you dream of as a kid, it’s a great feeling,”

The right-handed Fiers threw his 1st career no-hitter, and also his 1st career complete game; it marks the 11th no-hitter in club history and 1st no-hitter in Minute Maid Park history.

The Astros last no-hitter was a 6-pitcher combined effort on June 11, 2003 at New York Yankees (Oswalt, Munro, Saarloos, Lidge, Dotel, Wagner); RHP Darryl Kile tossed Houston’s last individual no-hitter on Sept. 8, 1993 vs. the New York Mets.

Fiers allowed just 3 walks on career-high 134 pitches.

The Astros runs came on two homeruns; Jake Marisnick hit a two-run homerun off Dodgers’ pitcher Brett Anderson in the 2nd inning and Evan Gattis hit his 19th homerun of the season in the 6th inning.

“It was just a thrill to go nine and not give up any runs, for this team, we are battling for first place,” said Fiers during his postgame press conference.

“You try not to think about it; you go about every inning the same, just face every pitch, every hitter, every inning and take the same as always and just be aggressive, attack the guys and just pitch,” the right handed added.

The Houston Astros add another successful chapter to their storied season
