Arizona United Jonathan Top Selected to Play for Guatemalan National Team

By Francisco Romero. –  Arizona United’s own Jonathan Top was selected to play for the Guatemalan National Team U23.  The 22-year old midfielder was born to a Guatemalan father and a Mexican mother.

Top has played with Arizona United since 2014; the Forth Worth native played in the MLS with FC Dallas appearing in four games and scoring one goal.

Arizona United made the announcement through a press release.

Top will report to Guatemala City on August 4 to train and play with the team as it prepares for Olympic qualifying. The qualifiers will take place on August 11, 13 and 15. Guatemala will play Honduras on August 13 and kick off against Belize on August 15. The winner of the three-nation group will move on to the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship in October. Those matches will be played in the United States.

If Guatemala finishes second in the group, the country would play in a two-legged playoff with the second-place nation in Group A for a spot in the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship. Those legs take place on August 19 and August 23.

Top has international experience as he already played for the United States U20 National Team.
