Children-DancersA group of vivacious pequeños – that’s Spanish for “little ones” – is making its way through Arizona this month to showcase the beautiful stories and many talents of children who live in the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) house in Nicaragua. NPH USA, formerly known as Friends of Orphans, is an organization devoted to saving abandoned and disadvantaged children through its homes and education services in nine Latin American countries.

The children visiting the Valley from Nicaragua this week range in ages 9 to 25 years old and have harrowing but inspiring life stories to share. They grew up in extreme poverty, devoid of basic necessities like food and clothing, before joining the NPH family. And still, they persevered with the help of NPH and the organization’s many contributors. For many, this is the first trip to Arizona, United States and even outside of Nicaragua. The children will perform traditional Nicaraguan dances and participate in a series of Catholic masses and events in other public spaces. In addition, they will participate in NPH’s annual fundraising gala on Friday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chaparral Suits in Scottsdale (reservations can be made on nphusa.org/SW2013 or at 480-967-9449).
