By Francisco Romero. – The Arizona Cardinals finished the first weekend of camp in a very positive attitude and without any major injuries.
After finishing the 2014 with a record of 11-5 and losing to the Panthers in the playoffs, head coach Bruce Arians is optimistic about the upcoming season.
Arians likes the make up of his defense, “The depth on defense, specially on the secondary is outstanding and in the defensive line, all those young guys, the veterans know it too. The linebacker core has enough bodies to be a very efficient group,” Arians said during the weekend.
The Cardinals added veteran Cory Redding during the offseason and should still be able to contribute on defense.
In 2014 the Cardinals lost quarterback Carson Palmer in week 10 to a knee (ACL) injury and he is expected to be fully recovered during training camp.
“Coming back from this injury is going to help me a lot, just knowing how I feel, how I might feel after a couple of days in a row along with the typical soreness that come along with the recovery from the surgery and all that,” said Palmer during a press conference.
Although very pleased with the beginning of training camp leading towards the season, Bruce Arians mentioned there are areas the team has to work on, “We got to do a better job blocking and kick off returns, specially, we got to get somebody who is just going to pound it, get it out and get it past the 20,” said Arians as he described the needs of the team.
Overall the Cardinals head coach seems to be very happy with what he has seen from his players this past week, “Very pleased with the conditioning of the group, I would have been shocked if they weren’t in good shape.”
The first pre-season game for the Cardinals will be August 15 at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.
