Are the 49ers Destined to be Super Bowls Champions in 2014?
Tucson, AZ – 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick engineered a 14 play 65 yard drive to set up a 33 yard game winning field goal in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers to advance in the NFL playoffs. San Francisco beat Green Bay 23 – 20 at Lambeau Field.
The 49ers will face the Carolina Panthers in the next round of the playoffs on Sunday January 12. San Francisco is looking for their sixth Super Bowl Championship and if they are to accomplish that feat Kaepernick is the key. It is no secret that the 49ers quarterback’s statistical numbers diminished this year compared to his debut season, but in the victory against the Packers Kaepernick showed poised, maturity and leadership.
For most of the season the 49ers defense carried them to victories as they finished eighth in yards per played allowed and fourth in yards per point allowed. As San Francisco advances to play Carolina all the regular season stats are thrown out the window.
“Colin took matters into his own hands,” mentioned 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, “He was unbelievable, he is just clutch.” Kaepernick finished the game completing 16 of 30 passes for 227 yards with one touchdown, he added 98 rushing yards on seven carries.
Against the Panthers the 49ers will have their work cut out this coming weekend if wide receiver Steve Smith is able to play. He didn’t practice last week due to a knee sprain.
The Panthers beat San Francisco during the regular season in a hard fought game 10-9 during week 10, two months later this 49ers team is much different. During the loss the Panthers Kaepernick was limited to 16 yard rushing and 91 yards passing.
