A Recap on the 29th Annual National Hispanic Women's Corporation

The 29th Annual Hispanic Women’s Corporation was a success this year. The event took place on Thursday and Friday of last week at the Phoenix Convention Center, and was able to gather hundreds of Latinas to empower them on professional, civic and academic goals.
Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration and Presidential Cabinet Member was the key note speaker for the event, and shared a powerful message on the strides that Latinos have been able to make in our national economy and holding government office.
Furthermore, during the Annual Luncheon, the following awards were given:
Beatriz Cazares, Miss Mexico Queen of the Universe 2014, was awarded HWC’s National Lorraine Lee Latina Leadership Award for Courage & Conviction.
Angelli Nesma Medina, Televisa Global Award Winning TV/novelas Producer with works such as Los Ricos Tambien Lloran, Maria la del Barrio, Por tu amor, Abismo de Pasion and Lo que la Vida me Robo was awarded HWC’s International Latina Leadership Award.
Carmen Pelaez, winner of Off-Broadway awards, has written for Marie Claire, Huffington Post and the New York Times and has just completed a documentary Habla Men that will premiere October 10th on HBO Latino. She was recipient of HWC’s Excellence in the Dramatic Arts Award.
Bridget Whitman, who recently competed in Season 11 of So You Think You Can Dance and earned her spot as one of the top 20 finalists on the show, was awarded HWC’s Latina Youth Excellence Award.
Dallas Escobedo, former NCAA softball All-American from Arizona State University, has established herself as one of the top female athletes in United States. She was awarded with HWC’s Latina Excellence in Athletics Award.
The Carl Hayden Robotics Team was recognized at the Hispanic Heritage Awards in Washington, D.C. at the Lincoln Center on September 18th, and during the ceremony, they were awarded HWC’s National Youth Leadership STEM Award.
