Employee Relationships Key to Keeping Staff When CEO’s Depart, Research Finds

You know the film Jerry Maguire right? Upon getting fired, while leaving the office Jerry announces he’s starting his own agency and asks if anyone is willing to join him. Sweet Dorothy agrees.

Turns out, it’s happening more and more in real life. When good leaders leave for new and better opportunities many times subordinates follow them out the door. There’s even a new catchphrase for it: ‘turnover contagion’ when entire teams exit, following the departure of their CEO.

Researchers at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business who are studying this type of turnover say, co-worker relationships might impact someone’s decision to stay or go. Click here to read more.

One famous example is the three guys who left a semiconductor company to start what would later become Intel Corporation.
