This season, one of the things that we all have in mind is the delicious food — lots of it!

BUT, it turns out that it isn’t the food that makes up the majority of our calories this season, but it’s the drinks. According to the Daily Mail, the average consumption of alcohol this season is 62 units – 30 glasses of wine or 22 pints of beer. The new research published by the site found that people will drink nearly 4,000 calories in the run up to Christmas.

To put it in perspective, it would take seven hours of jogging to burn those calories off. And that’s just alcohol — and before the big roasts, canapes and treats are all taken into account.

The Royal Society of Public Health also stepped in at the issue and found that most people have no idea how many calories are in their drinks. The survey of 2,000 young adults revealed that one in four 18 to 24 year-olds and a third of 25 to 34 yer-olds have skipped a meal before an evening out to ‘make room’ for alcohol in their daily calorie allowance.

The most important thing about these numbers and statistics, is to remember moderation. We can all have a joyous holiday next to the ones we love while remembering to take care of our bodies and our health.
