PHOENIX — Every year, MIHS welcomes new groups of extremely motivated, highly intelligent and very compassionate young clinicians who are eager to put their skills to use. This week, 115 of these young doctors began their New Resident Orientation at Maricopa Medical Center. They are a diverse group, coming from as far away as Ireland and representing 53 different medical schools.
MIHS has the largest and longest tenured physician training program in Maricopa County. Since its inception in 1952, thousands of physicians have trained here and a large majority has opted to remain in Arizona, most in Maricopa County. The next time you talk to your doctor, ask her or him where they trained. The answer likely will be MIHS.
There are many beneficiaries to our 10 residency programs, and among those are our physician partners at District Medical Group (DMG), who train and mentor these young physicians. Next are the residents themselves, who are exposed to a rich and unique clinical environment. Finally, our patients, who benefit from these talented young clinicians who bring new energy to our mission of providing high quality care to all our patients.
Our residency programs – ranging from emergency medicine to psychiatry – have proven to be essential to keeping MIHS up to date with medical advances and helping us to maintain fresh perspectives on a wide variety of medical issues. By maintaining a strong residency program, MIHS also plays a critical role in helping to address Arizona’s physician and expertise shortage.
