Sonoran Hot DogBy Jessica Danielle Ramirez

The party, concert, or gathering has ended and it is 1 AM. You are hungry. But, you are tired of the typical late night diners that  are open.

On the northeast corner of 75th Avenue and Camelback is a food truck. The food truck is crowded with many people lined up to order their hotdog.

The music is playing loudly as customers from all walks of life place their orders to the cashier.

This hotdog food truck is not your typical mustard and ketchup serving. La Pasadita serves hotdogs that are influenced by Sonora, Mexico. Sonoran hotdogs can be found in Phoenix, Tucson, Nogales, and Douglas. Sonoran hotdogs began in the 1960′s, but didn’t become popular until the late 1980′s. In Mexico, customers may choose their condiments from a wider variety of toppings such as pineapple, chorizo, and sour cream.

La Pasadita begins their business at 6:30 PM and end at 2 AM. The weekends are their busiest day for business.

When you get to the location, be prepared to eat outside. La Pasadita’s ambiance is loud and fast paced; with three or four workers in the food truck preparing each hot dog as it is being ordered. As the lines grow and customers place their orders, the workers are ringing the bell and calling out the numbers as the hot dogs are finished.

Many customers come to La Pasadita to try these unique hot dogs.

Cashier, Rafael Rodriguez said, “A lot of customers bring their friends and they are surprised that all of the toppings that we offer can fit in the hot dog.”

What makes these hot dogs unique from the traditional ones is that the dog is wrapped in bacon. The condiments include: beans, grilled onions, tomatoes, mayonnaise, cream sauce, mustard, jalapeños, and salsa served on bread and often with a side fresh-roasted chili.

And if you do not like hot dogs, La Pasadita sells French fries, corn of the cob, and other traditional Mexican treats.

The food was delicious, and even though it was packed I received my hot dog in a timely manner. La Pasadita offers a condiment bar for one to add additional toppings if they wish. Be prepared to get messy, but do not worry, La Pasadita provides giant napkins for your meal and unfortunately, flimsy forks.

Overall, it is a great place to go to when you are craving a very late night meal.
