Tamales and More at Bitz-ee Mama’s in Downtown Glendale

Downtown Glendale is known for its eclectic collection of shops and eateries, all within walking distance from each other. It’s also known for Glendale Glitters, which takes place during the Holiday Season. You have boutiques  for customers to shop and restaurants are open for foodies to indulge. 

Bitzee-Mama’s is a Mexican restaurant that brings its own Latin flavor to Glendale Glitters. Throughout the years, the family-owned eatery has sold tamale after tamale throughout the community, leaving their customers craving for more.

When you first walk through the doors, you immediately feel the local vibe. From a countless number of local artists whose paintings are hung up for sale, to community events like a meet-and-greet with Santa – it’s all about unity at Bitzee- Mama’s.

While they’re known for their traditional Mexican plates like the Chimichangas and the Flan, the tamales are their best sellers. Last year, they sold over 20,000 tamales during the holiday season; and this year, it should be no different. 

“Every year we sell more and more. The word gets out,” LuLu Rodriguez said. 

The Tamales are made with red chili beef and is just filled with meat. Watch out though, if you eat one you’ll be tempted to have another… and possibly another!

Customers can order tamales any time of the year; but during the Holiday Season, the old favorite sells left and right.

“We have dozens of tamales ready to be picked up on Christmas Eve,” she said.

The most popular tamales are the green corn and have cheddar cheese and green chilis stuffed inside. They also have a hint of sweetness in every bite.

“We also offer sweet tamales that have pineapple, raisins, cinnamon and sugar,” explained Rodriguez. “It’s like a pastry that you can eat with your hot chocolate.”

While it’s lively during the Holidays with all of the festivities, colorful lights, and even a visit from Santa – Bitz-ee Mama’s is home to locals and exudes a welcoming vibe from all walks of life. The restaurant has been around for 44 years. However, nine years ago, Rodriguez took over the eatery and slowly incorporated her recipes.

There’s no stopping for Bitz-ee Mama’s. From early morning to late at night, the team continues to add flavor to the community in downtown Glendale and welcomes all first-timers, travelers and of course, its locals.
