Travelers may have to look twice and foodies may have to head towards the airport.
On the corner of Pima street where many scattered buildings reside, a small Mexican eatery is bringing traditional and unique dishes along with entertainment.
Pitic Restaurant & Lounge is a hidden gem that has been in service for over a decade.
Adrian Quinones is the owner of the colorful restaurant and has been in the restaurant business long before his time with Pitic.
A native from Mexico, Quinones began working in the U.S as a dishwasher and worked his way up to manager, which led him to become business owner.
“We serve food from Sonora, Mexico and also central Mexico, so we have mixed food from different states,” Quinones said.
There are 16 different traditional combos customers can choose from at the eatery from chiles rellenos, enchiladas and tacos, to the tacos de machaca. All entrees are served with a side of rice and beans in large portions.
Many who have dined at Pitic Restaurant & Lounge look forward to their best-selling salsa served with each meal.
“I believe that the food should be served high-quality. If you use good quality and you aspire to cook, it will turn out great,” he said.
Their dessert menu stands out from the rest. Their newest one-of-a-kind dessert, the Chimisweets, is an original creation. They are fruity and come in servings of two topped with whipped cream.
While the restaurant is located near Sky Harbor Airport, it wasn’t the area that convinced Quinones to serve his best version of his native country’s cuisine.
“I saw the capacity and how good of a restaurant it was. So I decided to buy it from my mother-in-law and I took it over,” he explained.
Pitic Restaurant & Lounge is more than your typical Mexican restaurant in Phoenix.
During the day, it is a relaxing spot for travelers waiting for their flight or even or for a quick lunch with friends and family. Once the sun goes down, however, the restaurant turns into a home for nightlife and flavor.
Every week, Pitic plays live music where customers can unwind or simply order drinks and appetizers to enjoy the Latin atmosphere.
“We are a restaurant and a bar with dancing and music. It’s a lot of fun to be here,” Quinones said.
Pitic Restaurant & Lounge is a familiar restaurant in Phoenix for residents and travelers. It remains an exciting place to enjoy the colorful, authentic Mexican atmosphere and dance to popular Latin hits.
