Burritos have a whole new meaning in Phoenix.

Less than a year ago, the man who brought Mejico, Zocalo Mexican Grill and other unique restaurants to the Valley opened up a new eatery, a hidden treasure.

Obed de la Cruz runs Phoenix Burrito House in Phoenix along with his brother, David de la Cruz, who also helps run the eatery. De la Cruz wears many different hats and each day he prepares the tastiest burritos for every customer that walks in through the doors.

Although the eatery is fairly small, it is filled with life with many vibrant colors. Just like every restaurant the family owns, there is a specific theme. At Phoenix Burrito House the theme is La Loteria, which is proudly displayed on their walls.

The burritos are made Sonoran style and there is a wide variety of from which customers can choose from. Customers can have their choice of meat: shredded beef, carne asada, pork carnitas, chorizo, grilled chicken and pork in green chili sauce, and also their choice of beans.

“Our most ordered burrito is the green chili because that is our family specialty,” De la Cruz said. “The ingredients we use are very simple and it has been my mom’s recipe for many years.”

Phoenix Burrito House many be known for their mouth-watering burritos, but there are also quesadillas (with meats or veggies to include), tacos and salads.

“We have a lot of specials like our chicken enchilada and the chile rellenos,” he said. “In the winter we will also be serving soups.”

The new restaurant is a very relaxing atmosphere with old-style jams playing as background music. Customers can expect affordable prices and a friendly staff ready to serve.

“Coming here you may have to wait for a while. At first you may not like it, but once you take the first bite, it’s worth it,” De la Cruz said.

Since the new eatery opened, customer’s lunch choices have expanded. The kitchen may be small at Phoenix Burrito House, but that is not stopping the employees from creating deliciously stuffed burritos.
