There is something alluring about a bright magenta building located along Osbourn and 24st. From what meets the eye, it’s just another Mexican restaurant in Phoenix. But walking into the eatery, it’s a whole different story. From the colorful décor to the great amount of Frida Khalo paintings displayed elegantly throughout the place, there is no doubt Asi Es La Vida is an incredible place to dine at.
The man behind the successful hot spot is 28-year-old Irving Rodriguez, a jack of all trades. Asi Es La Vida is a legacy that began many decades ago, but it wasn’t until he turned 21 when he took over the eatery and made it the upscale Mexican go-to spot close to downtown Phoenix.
“Our food is filled with a lot of history, tradition and taste of course,” he said.
Lunch and dinner is served daily and depending on the time and day customers go, the experience may be slightly different. During lunch, the atmosphere is calm and laid back, good for a lunch with co-workers or those close to the area. But once dinner time comes around, you can expect a full-out fine dining experience filled with dates, couples, families, friends and entertainment.
From Thursday-Saturday customers can listen to live music. However, the music may be different depending on the day.
“All you have to do is come in, sit and enjoy your dinner as our musician serenades you,” Rodriguez said.
What makes it truly remarkable is simply the food itself. The soups are like no other. From the sopa de tortilla, which is a spicy chicken broth with slices of tortilla, cheese and a few slices of avocado, to the crema de cilantro, the menu will have you hooked by the first sip.
House specials include the carne tampiqueña, which has sirloin, enmolada, poblano pepper filled with cheese and of course guacamole.
“We are all about quality. The portions may be smaller but we can assure you that it will be good and fresh,” Rodriguez said.
And customers can’t forget about the delightful dessert menu. There are six desserts to choose from and each with original flavors. Items such as the crepas de cajeta, pastel de las 3 leches and choco flan will satisfy your sweet tooth and bring a whole new meaning to desserts.
There is not one item on the menu that will not satisfy you. Dining at the exotic Mexican restaurant will bring you on a Latin food adventure.
After all, Asi Es La Vida.
