Glady’s Restaurante Salvadoreño Opens in Mesa

There’s a million and one reasons why a restaurant opens. A restaurateur followed his dreams, a restaurant expands with a new location, or a family is striving for the American dream by cooking their home cuisine in the way they know best.
Glady’s Restaurante Salvadoreno is the latest addition to the Valley and is serving up pupusas and all kinds of Salvadorian cuisine. What started off as a side business selling famous dishes from her home, turned into something greater as Gladis saw the growing demand around her.
“I didn’t have a job and that is what motivated me. I did it for my children,” said owner Gladis Palacios.
Fast-forward five months and now her restaurant is home to pupusas and more in the East Valley. Opened for breakfast and dinner, the menu offers numerous traditional plates that bring back memories of abuela’s best meals.
Stating the obvious, it’s their pupusas that most intrigues foodies and curious diners because, as you may not know, in El Salvador, that is what they’re known for. As to what tortillas mean to Mexicans and what an arepa means to Colombians, pupusas are included in every meal for Salvadorians.
“You make them [pupusas] with mais and can be prepared with chicharon or cheese,” she said.
Although they may look similar, pupusas are made with different ingredients, depending on what customers choose to order. Whether it’s the frijol con queso, queso con chicharon, or three plus other variations, the Palacios family can make the pupusas any way desired.
It’s no wonder the hole-in-the-wall restaurants are like a diamond in the rough. And if you love tamales, the eatery offers their take on Salvadorian tamales, which is quite different from your traditional Mexican tamales.
Coming in with the entire familia? Instead of buying separate plates, the restaurant’s special item that can feed an entire party is the especiales de Glady’s. In this entrée, customers will be able to taste a wide variety of meats from shrimp to carnes and pollo. It’s one dining experience the whole family can enjoy in one sitting.
“There’s rice and pico de gallo also in the entrée. It’s so delicious,” she explained.
If you’re looking for a new Latin restaurant to try or simply miss your comida from tu pais, Glady’s will make you feel like family! After all (and as we know), tu casa es mi casa!
