Asian Comfort Food in the Heart of Phoenix at Clever Koi

It’s no surprise that Downtown Phoenix is home to some of the greatest foodie scenes in the Valley. From bars to ethnic restaurants, there’s something for every palate. On 1^st Ave and Central, there’s one restaurant that hardly gets unnoticed by foodies Valley-wide.

Clever Koi is an Asian eatery serving modern cuisine from Japan, China, Thailand, and Korean fused together and made unique by adding their own style to each dish. From rice and noodle bowls to dumplings, these dishes may seem common at first glance of the menu, but they’re actually a new take on Asian dining.

Opened two years ago, the eatery has made an impact in the foodie community for their mouth-watering dishes and for giving a new perspective on what it’s like to dine in the heart of Phoenix.

“We do a lot of small plates, so we push the sharing aspect and so you’ll get the dynamic of what we are doing,” said general manager and partner Nick Campisino.

House dressing and marinades are a few things that are made from scratch. In fact, the inside of their popular dumplings are made in house and are unlike any in the Valley. There are three to select from the menu: pig face, roasted corn, or scallop. Each has a unique flavor and is prepared according to your liking.

Or, if you’re a fan of the noodles, you should definitely check this place out. There are a variety of noodles to select from, each with their own taste and identity. One commonly ordered dish is the pork ramen. In this particular dish is a combo of pork belly and kimchi with a soft egg on top.

By simply looking around, foodies can see the originality the restaurant has to offer Phoenix. From the service settings to the chopsticks on the table, there’s no wonder why Clever Koi has been, and will remain, a Valley favorite,

“Asian food is very intricate and challenging. There is always something to research and learn,” said Campisino.
